Winter in Sydney is currently in full force, and is quite possibly the coldest winter we have ever experienced. Until this winter, I used to pride myself on not feeling the cold, unfortunately this year I have to admit that I am definitely feeling it!

While I layer up with extra socks, jumpers, stockings and coats, many of our guests are visiting Sydney without their wardrobes, and are literally freezing their socks off!

To keep your guests warm this winter, I have provided my five favourite ways to warm up the home throughout the colder seasons:

Blanket

The easiest way to keep your guests warm, and not break the bank is through providing extra thick spare blankets! As a general rule, I advise leaving at least one extra blanket per bed space. If you wish to go further and provide an extra bit of service for your guests, there is never any harm in providing 2 or 3 extra blankets in case the chill really hits home!

Spare Heaters

Having a spare heater on hand will never ever do you any harm! This is important to keep in mind considering that central heating units can malfunction (especially at inconvenient times), and that your guests will be coming from different climates, therefore having different body temperatures.

Therefore in case your heater busts, or your guests are really feeling the chill, keep a spare one on hand! Your guests will always warmly welcome having an extra heater available to them.

Draught Excluders

Commonly known as 'door snakes', draught excluders are those things that you put up against the bottom of your door so the wind doesn't seep through from outside your home.

Draught excluders are a simple and effective way to stop cold draughts from entering into your home. The best part about them is that they’re relatively cheap, easy to use and readily available online and in stores. (Bunnings)

Slippers

I honestly think I got the flu this winter because I hadn’t kept my feet warm, this was because the easiest way to loose heat from your body is through your feet.

By providing slippers for your guests you are helping them stay warm and comfortable whilst they are in your home, this also helps reduce any potential marks or stains on carpets or floorboards, which could have occurred from footwear being worn throughout your home.

Now I know what you’re thinking, and no you wont have to break the bank to provide this luxury for your guests. Sites like Alibaba allow you to buy slippers in bulk at a very low cost, which are either replaceable or re-wearable.

Going that extra mile, and providing slippers for your guests allows them to keep warm and ensures an enjoyable stay. Guests will recognize this and will elaborate on it positively throughout their reviews of your home.

Rug up

Rugs are a great idea, especially for homes without carpet!

Homes with bare floors, allow extra chill to seep in through flooring, making those winter chills that little bit more unbearable.

Both a stylish and an effective way to combat the chill seeping through, is to purchase a couple of nice rugs and spread them around the house. This will provide an easy to use and repeat solution each winter, to contain warmth throughout your home.

If like me, you are feeling the cold more than ever this winter, try implementing a few of the solutions above.  All of which I can assure will be warmly welcomed by your home and your guests.
