With restrictions starting to ease, it's time to start planning your next Australian holiday

It may be some time until international travel bans are lifted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however promising signs of Australia's progress in slowing the rate of the infection growth and flattening the curve may lead to a much faster recovery for the domestic travel market.

With intrastate travel restrictions in NSW due to be lifted from 1 June, and other states also beginning to relax rules around non-essential travel, now's the time to start dreaming and booking your next trip.

Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham has encouraged Australians currently stuck in quarantine and lockdown restrictions to start dreaming of their next holiday in the country.

"My message is now is the time when you can dream and plan but not execute those plans.

You should really be thinking about the type of trips you might take in Australia when restrictions on travel are lifted on travel in Australia, however many months away that may be."

To kick off your travel inspiration and planning, here's three great Australian holiday destinations and the best places you can stay.

The Blue Mountains

Turn off the laptop and take a much needed screen time break, it's time to unbox those brand new hiking boots you bought online and head for the mountains.

Tourism in the Blue Mountains has been heavily affected by a devastating double hit from the 2019/2020 Summer bushfires and then the following COVID-19 pandemic. The local community is eagerly awaiting the return to some normalcy once domestic travel restrictions are lifted, and ready to welcome visitors back to its charming cafes, restaurants and art galleries.
